About
After Roberta Smith of The New York Times declared him a genius in her article “Who is to Say Where Inside Meets Outside” (March 29, 2002), John Tursi’s artistic output accelerated even further. Exploring different styles, he ventures into areas reminiscent of Opt Art of the Sixties, yet in a new and innovative way. The world of “Dirty Tursi” is at once sensuous and childlike. Tursi’s cornucopia of abstract and figurative, two and three dimensional constructs celebrates the power of lust and energy of humor. According to the artist, the origins of the work derive from his “Book of Dreams,” where creation and success are assured. Tursi remains a major force behind the collective running the Living Museum.
