January 8 – January 31, 2016
Campbell’s approach to painting often uses non-conventional tools. He experiments with children’s toys and technological gizmos and gadgets to execute his compositions. Many of the newest works employ marks created with dollar store koosh balls. The resulting abstractions maintain a connection to the artist’s gestures, spontaneous or planned, and suggest elements of nature, fireworks, portals into some unknown world, and influences of other cultures and traditions.
Lyrical expressions, capable of evoking rich emotions, at times veer into surrealist modalities while retaining an abstract power of the subconscious laid bare. The viewer is embraced in an aesthetic play of color and form within an internally organized system.
This exhibition was made possible by the collaboration of Van Der Plas Gallery and L & B Interlude Art Agency.
